Ginnie Mae Definition
Ginnie Mae is the informal name for the Government National Mortgage Association (GNMA). GNMA is part of the Dept. of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) and is completely owned by the United States Government. Ginnie Mae buys home mortgage notes from lenders and resells them to investors. The securities are insured and guaranteed by the U.S. government.
